True, the pyramids of Egypt are ancient architectural wonders. For modern marvels, check out a seven-man pyramid on a high wire at the circus.

Now celebrating its 125th anniversary, Cole Bros. Circus pitches its mustard and ketchup-colored tent on Midland Beach's Father Capodanno Boulevard, near Midland Avenue, July 20-26.

The Toprasta Troupe, from Columbia, recreates the treacherous, three-tier, "7-Man Pyramid on the High Wire." Joining them are Russia's Svetlana Gololobova whose grace belies her strength in a precisely executed aerial gymnastics routine.

Circus daredevils the Globe of Death and Giant Gyro Wheel amp up the thrills factor, while with the zany Cole Bros. Clown Crew provide comic relief. Elephants, camels, jugglers, dogs, ponies, and arguably the world's funniest mule take turns in the spotlight. The Human Cannonball is fired at every show.

The circus runs July 20-26 at 5 and 8 p.m. nightly with additional 2 p.m. shows July 25 and 26. Tickets are $12-$17. Children younger than 13 are admitted free when an adult purchases a $12 general admission ticket with a coupon available at S & L Children's Designs in the Staten Island Mall. Or children are entitled to $3 reserved seating when an adult purchases a $15 reserved seating ticket with the coupon at S& L Children's Designs. The store sells tickets through July 19.
