University at Buffalo Center for the Arts to Use ProVenue®

Western New York becoming a stronghold for the state-of-the-art platform

Tickets.com and the University at Buffalo Center for the Arts announced a new partnership agreement centralized on ProVenue.

“The Center for the Arts remains committed to keeping ticket prices affordable in Western New York, and the fight against rising ticketing service charges is central to that mission,” states Joel Thompson, Director of Ticket Operations for the Center. “This new partnership with Tickets.com allows us to move forward with no fee increases in the foreseeable future, allowing our patrons the best opportunity to see the great entertainment they’ve come to expect from our stages at reasonable prices.”

Tickets.com has served the collegiate and arts markets for many years, however the newer, industry-leading ProVenue platform has been primarily operating in regional ticketing as well as the sports (major and minor league) markets until now. This win celebrates the first foray for the platform in the University Arts segment. It is also one of many conversions to ProVenue in the upstate New York region in recent years, giving Tickets.com a strong presence in the area.

International Bowl Attracts University at Buffalo
Mid-American Champs will play in Toronto

TORONTO, ONTARIO – The University at Buffalo, the winner of the Mid-American Conference Championship on Friday against previously-unbeaten Ball State, has accepted an invitation to represent the MAC in the International Bowl, January 3, 2009 at Rogers Centre in Toronto.

It will be the first Bowl appearance in the school’s historic football program, which began in 1894, and follows an exciting season in which the Bulls capped off a first-place finish in the MAC East Division with an emphatic 42-24 victory in the MAC Championship game. Buffalo played in four overtime games this season, winning three of them and had six games decided on the final snap.

The UB Bulls have made significant strides under the direction of third-year head coach Turner Gill, a Heisman Trophy finalist in 1983 with the University of Nebraska. Gill guided the Bulls to a first-place finish this year in the MAC East Division with a 7-5 record. It marked the second consecutive season that Gill’s team improved its record from the year before. Gill was named the MAC Coach of the Year in 2007. “It is with great pride, and anticipation, that we accept an invitation to play in the International Bowl on behalf of our administration,” Gill remarked. “Our football program is extremely excited to come to the great city of Toronto, where we know we will be well-represented not only by UB students, alumni and Western New York, but also Southern Ontario. It is another great step forward for our University, and particularly fitting that it occurs 50 years after our 1958 team earned our first bowl bid.”

The ’58 Bulls team rejected an opportunity to play in the Tangerine Bowl that year against Florida State in Orlando, Florida because it had two African-American players and the Orlando High School Athletic Association prohibited blacks and whites from playing together.

International Bowl Executive Director Ken Hoffman praised the Buffalo program for its tremendous season in 2008 and added the team is a great representative for its conference. “Congratulations to Coach Turner Gill and his team for their outstanding season,” Hoffman said. “Buffalo has a long and rich history and brings a unique element to this year’s game because of the school’s proximity to Toronto.”

The 2009 International Bowl will be broadcast in the U.S. on ESPN2 and in Canada on The Score.

ABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL BOWL:

The International Bowl is the only NCAA Division I football game played outside the U.S. The third annual International Bowl will be played on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Rogers Centre with a noon kick-off.

UB’s comeback is simply golden
Bowl invitation helps right past wrong

With their 40-34 double overtime win on Friday night at Bowling Green, the University at Buffalo Bulls clinched their first outright Mid America Conference East Division championship. The Bulls will play the West Division winner in the MAC Championship game Sat Dec 6 at Ford Field in Detroit, MI. The Bulls will meet either 16th ranked Ball State, Central Michigan or Western Michigan. UB’s regular season concludes with a home game on Fri Nov 28 2pm vs. Kent St.

Buffalo rallied from a 20 point deficit with just 13 minutes left in the game, tying the game at 27-27 with 37 seconds left, sending Buffalo to overtime for the fifth time this season. James Starks 25 yard TD run on the first play of the second overtime clinched the victory. Of their 11 games this season, five games have been decided in OT and two others on the final play of the game.

Following the MAC championship game, the Bulls season will continue as participants in either the International Bowl in Toronto, Motor City Bowl in Detroit or the GMAC Bowl in Mobile, AL. The last Bulls team to quality for a post season bowl game was the ‘58 squad who qualified for the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando, FL. But the team declined the bid when the Orlando hosts said UB’s two black players wouldn’t be allowed on the same field with white players. The 1958 team was honored earlier this season prior to a UB home game and also was featured on ESPN’s “Outside The Line” on Sun Nov 23.

Vote for Buffalo’s “Pontiac Game Changing Performance” and the Bulls Could Win $5,000

It was a memorable Mid-American Conference schedule opener, leaving an entire UB stadium to bear witness to a major moment in Buffalo football history. Trailing 28-24 and down to their final play, junior Naaman Roosevelt pulled in a 35-yard "Hail Mary" pass from senior quarterback Drew Willy to propel the Bulls to a 30-28 victory over the Temple Owls. This incredible UB play earned the Bulls their first Pontiac Game Changing Performance nomination.

Now it is up to Buffalo fans to determine if the Bulls will earn a Pontiac Game Changing Performance for week three of the 2008 NCAA® Football Season. UB fans can go to pontiac.com/ncaa, where they can view video clips of the four finalists and vote for the Bulls!

Voting begins on Sunday morning and ends at midnight on Wednesday. ESPN will announce this week’s Pontiac Game Changing Performance winner on Thursday night, during the Pontiac G6 Halftime Report.

The winning university earns a $5,000 contribution from Pontiac to their general scholarship fund. Additionally, the winning play will be nominated for the Pontiac Game Changing Performance of the Year award and the chance to win a $100,000 general scholarship contribution from Pontiac.

In addition, each week one lucky individual who visits pontiac.com/ncaa, will also win a $5,000 scholarship for them self or someone in their family.

“Awarding $1.5 million since its inception, the Pontiac Game Changing Performance program continues to be a great example of how passionate fans can have a positive impact academically and athletically by generating scholarship dollars for university-wide programs,” said Rece Davis, ESPN.
