Buffalo Bandits Prepare for NLL Championship Game

Due to various injuries, Brett Bucktooth's second season with the Bandits didn't begin until March 22.

Sometimes nothing is more painful than the waiting game. Buffalo Bandits second-year forward Brett Bucktooth knows that feeling all too well.

Bucktooth, a two-time All-American at Syracuse University, was the third overall pick in the 2006 draft. He showed flashes of brilliance during his rookie season with 12 goals and 26 points but something wasn’t right when he reported for training camp last November.

Bucktooth finally came back on March 22 and scored on his first shot, just 17 seconds into a 13-9 home loss to the Toronto Rock. But he couldn’t play two weeks later against Colorado and didn’t return to the lineup for good until April 12 against Rochester, finishing the season with four goals and three assists in four games.

The start of the playoffs has brought signs of the old Bucktooth, who had four goals and two assists in victories over Philadelphia and New York that got the Bandits to the championship game for the eighth time in their 17-year history.

The 25-year-old Bucktooth scored two short-handed goals against New York last week.

“It’s a big boost because every time he’s in the lineup he makes terrific plays,” said forward Roger Vyse. “He gave us a big boost against New York and got it really going for us.”

Bucktooth is thankful he was able to return for the championship run. It made all the lonely hours of riding a bicycle in rehab worth it.

“I wanted to be out there and I was missing it more than anything,” he said. “I don’t think I ever got frustrated or upset. I was disappointed, but that’s the way sports injuries are. You’ve just got to take it and learn from it. Any time you’re not able to do what you love most, when you finally get back, there’s a certain amount of gratitude.

“No player wants to miss a championship game because of an injury. I wouldn’t want to be in any other game with any other team. Being with the Bandits, in Buffalo, you can’t ask for a better situation.”

Ways to Buy Tickets are Changing

Buying tickets to Royals games is becoming similar to shopping on eBay or Craig’s List.

Go to the team’s website, royals.com, and you’ll find the team auctioning off tickets and also providing a place for private individuals to buy and sell tickets.

Gone are the days when teams only sold directly to customers at face ticket value and would never be go-betweens for private sales. The Royals, like other major league teams, are looking for more ways to make money. But these new methods also give fans access to otherwise unavailable seats.
