Cole Brothers Circus comes to Albany Mall

Albany Herald
Cathy Higgins

It's going to be a circus in the Good Life City next week as Cole Brothers Circus of the Stars brings its 125th anniversary edition show to Albany.

Performances will be held 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Albany Mall, located at 2601 Dawson Road.

Tickets are $17 for adults, $12 for ages 2-12. Reserved seats are an additional $3, and VIP seats are an additional $5. A $5 discount can be obtained by purchasing tickets in advance at Pets & Pals in the Albany Mall, visiting www.tickets.com or calling 1-888-332-5200.

Started in 1884 by W.W. Cole, Cole Brothers Circus will celebrate its history with performances that hearken back to its roots, as well as contemporary acts.

"The Toprasta Troupe from Columbia recreates the treacherous, three-tier, seven-man pyramid on the high wire," a news release states. "Russia's Svetlana Golobolova exhibits her grace that belies her strength in an exquisitely executed gymnastic routine on aerial silks."

The action will also include daredevils challenging the Globe of Death and Giant Gyro Wheel, with the Cole Brothers Clown Crew providing comic relief.

Of course, no circus would be complete without elephants, acrobats, camels, jugglers, animal acts and the human cannonball.

Circus is coming to Staten Island

Cole Bros. set to pitch its tent at Midland Beach

Staten Island Advance
by AWE staff

True, the pyramids of Egypt are ancient architectural wonders. For modern marvels, check out a seven-man pyramid on a high wire at the circus.

Now celebrating its 125th anniversary, Cole Bros. Circus pitches its mustard and ketchup-colored tent on Midland Beach's Father Capodanno Boulevard, near Midland Avenue, July 20-26.

The Toprasta Troupe, from Columbia, recreates the treacherous, three-tier, "7-Man Pyramid on the High Wire." Joining them are Russia's Svetlana Gololobova whose grace belies her strength in a precisely executed aerial gymnastics routine.

Circus daredevils the Globe of Death and Giant Gyro Wheel amp up the thrills factor, while with the zany Cole Bros. Clown Crew provide comic relief. Elephants, camels, jugglers, dogs, ponies, and arguably the world's funniest mule take turns in the spotlight. The Human Cannonball is fired at every show.

The circus runs July 20-26 at 5 and 8 p.m. nightly with additional 2 p.m. shows July 25 and 26. Tickets are $12-$17. Children younger than 13 are admitted free when an adult purchases a $12 general admission ticket with a coupon available at S & L Children's Designs in the Staten Island Mall. Or children are entitled to $3 reserved seating when an adult purchases a $15 reserved seating ticket with the coupon at S& L Children's Designs. The store sells tickets through July 19.

For more information, call the children's clothing store at 718-761-6498 or visit tickets.com or gotothecircus.com, or call 1-888-332-5200.

Cole Bros. Circus is old-fashioned entertainment

By Brian Freskos
Star-News Online

Camels and elephants will be in Wilmington April 2-5 when the Cole Bros. Circus celebrates its 125th anniversary as part of the Azalea Festival.

Cole Bros.’ “Circus of the Stars” is the world’s largest circus held under a big top tent, said circus Co-chairwoman Valerie Watkins.

This year the circus will feature elephants, camels, clowns, acrobats, trapeze artists, aerial gymnasts, the Human Cannonball and motorcycles in the Globe of Death, according to the Azalea Festival’s Web site.

Watkins said the event also will include a domestic dog act and a seven-man pyramid performance done on a high wire.

The event is called “Circus of the Stars” because the inside of the tent looks like a planetarium – dark blue like a nighttime sky, with bright, shimmering stars all over, Watkins said.

She said people of all ages will enjoy the varying performances.

According to circus attendance records, there has been a ratio of one adult per child, according to the Cole Bros. Web site.

The circus puts on two shows per day, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. On April 4, the circus will perform three shows.

The shows contain approximately two hours of entertainment, Watkins said, and there is an intermission after about an hour.

Reserved tickets are $15 for children 12 and younger and seniors over age 62, and $20 for adults. A VIP ticket costs an additional $5.

Watkins recommended that people purchase tickets before April 1 at the festival’s box office, 5725 Oleander Drive, unit B7.

Tickets also can be bought online at tickets.com or on the Cole Bros. Web site, www.gotothecircus.com. After April 1, tickets can only be purchased at the circus box office.

The show takes place at 1740 Airport Blvd., by Wilmington International Airport
